Hybrid Funds
Hybrid funds, also known as specialty funds, offer investors unique asset classes, or combined asset classes. For example, a balanced mutual fund includes both a fixed income and equity component.
Balanced mutual funds may offer investors the benefits of fixed income investing (lower volatility, income derived from interest) with the potential benefits of equity investing (long-term capital appreciation.)
Another example of a hybrid fund is a convertible fund. Convertibles are corporate securities - usually bonds or preferred shares of a stock - that may be exchanged for another asset, such as common stock.
